Hello! I'm John Herzfeld, and I'll be teaching 5th through 8th grade language arts this year. I've taught for 30 years, ranging from pre-school to college, but the middle grades have always held a special place in my heart. I spent most of my career at Louisville Collegiate School, and I'm excited to start this year at St. James. I received my Bachelor's Degree in English and telecommunications from Indiana University, and earned my Master of Arts in Teaching English, as well as an English as a Second Language Endorsement, from the University of Louisville.
In language arts, we'll enhance our communication skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. We'll build your knowledge of vocabulary and grammar. And because every text we read will require context, much of our work will be interdisciplinary. You might learn about politics, philosophy, anthropology, music, history, and even film theory, among other topics. We'll have fun learning in an active classroom where you will have chances to be the teacher! Get ready for a great year!
