PTO MEETING -- NOVEMBER, 2011

In Attendance: Mr. Tom Schmitt, Ms. Karen Snapp, Shelly Ackerman, Holly Liter, Maureen McAllister, Heather Sowders, Bridget Young

Coupon Books are still available and sales have been doing well, bringing in a profit of $600-700 so far. Despite multiple efforts by Dr. Bridget Young which were much appreciated, scheduling a St. James charity feed night did not pan out; we will try again in the Spring.

Orders are now being placed for Christmas poinsettias: last date to place an order is Fri, 12/9, with pick-up dates scheduled for 12/14 & 15. Prices are $1 higher this year to reflect the rise in wholesale prices in each of the last several years. In addition to Christmas flowers, a suggestion was made to have coupon books and St. James magnets for sale at the 1st/2nd grade school play on Tues, 11/22.

Ms. Kilgore, the PE teacher, has requested mats for the gym. These of course will be used for years to come and prices are pending.

Carmichael’s will sponsor a book fair for St. James for one week prior to Christmas; this will include a 20% discount for all patrons who mention they are part of the St. James family!

Mr. Schmitt thanked everyone who brought in treats for the teachers and staff during the recent parent-teacher conferences.

Volunteers are needed for pricing items, set-up and staffing of the Secret Santa Shop which is always a big hit with the students; dates TBA.

The St. James marketing committee is led by Mr. David Doll. The main objective of the committee is to promote visibility of and attendance at the school with a priority of enrolling a larger number of the preschoolers who are already in attendance. Some suggestions:

update the webpage regularly

develop a promotional video

survey parents: what do they consider the pros/cons of the school?

discuss financial options with families

promote the academic achievements of current and former St. James students

promote the safe, secure environment which is offered

Mr. Schmitt’s goal is to have a waiting list for elementary school as well as preschool enrollment!

The meeting was adjourned at 8p.
Next meeting date/time TBA
